Announcement of Chief David Povero
The City of Covina and the Covina Police Department is honored to announce the retirement of Chief of Police David Povero, for December 31, 2024.
Chief Povero, a Covina native since 1964, has spent his entire life in this City, attending the local schools and participating in youth sports, music and scout programs. Chief Povero began his law enforcement career with the Covina Police Department in 1988 as a parking enforcement officer. Hired by the City of Arcadia in 1989, Povero attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Basic Police Academy and was a police officer for the Arcadia Police Department.
Povero later returned to the Covina Police Department as a police officer. In Covina, then Police Officer Povero earned the assignments of detective, promoted to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and in 2021 chief of police. He has extensive experience in both field, investigative and administrative operations, including the department’s Special Response Team. Povero was the project manager for many of the department’s ongoing technological advancements. Chief Povero has faithfully served the profession of policing for thirty-six and a half years, committed to providing the best public safety services to the community.
Police Operations will transition to the newly appointed Police Chief Ric Walczak on January 1, 2025.
