Lieutenant Antonio Zavala

Lieutenant Antonio Zavala was hired as a police officer in July 2001. Prior to joining Covina PD, Lieutenant Zavala served active duty in the United States Marine Corps from November 1992 until March 2001 and continued serving the Marine Corps Reserve until April 2004. Lieutenant Zavala initially worked as a patrol officer and later as a Field Training Officer. In 2004, Lieutenant Zavala became a Department Arrest and Control Instructor, and in 2005 was selected to the Department’s Special Response Team (SWAT). In 2008, Lieutenant Zavala was assigned to the Department’s Detective Bureau where he worked Domestic Violence, Property Crime, and was later assigned to work as a Crimes Persons Detective handling cases such as robbery and homicide. Lieutenant Zavala was promoted to Sergeant in December 2014 and was promoted to Lieutenant Zavala in January 2020. Lieutenant Zavala holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. In his spare time, he enjoys training in both Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.
