Lieutenant David Rodriguez
David Rodriguez was hired by the Covina Police Department in 2004. He graduated first in his police academy class of 72 recruits and received the awards for Honor Recruit and Lifetime Fitness. He excelled as a proactive police officer and held positions as a Narcotics Detective, Field Training Officer, Arrest and Control Instructor, and Crimes Against Persons Detective. He served nearly a decade on the Special Response Team (SWAT), where he planned and served high risk search warrants. He was awarded the California Association of Tactical Officers SWAT Officer of the Year in 2010. He promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2016.
As a Sergeant, he led the Community Impact Team and held positions in Recruitment, and Professional Standards and Training. Lieutenant Rodriguez is a recipient of three Lifesaving Medals and the prestigious Medal of Valor. He is the President of the Covina Police Foundation and a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. Lieutenant Rodriguez possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Fullerton and a Master of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego. He promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2025.
